Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho's charity, Sentebale, is preparing to unveil something special in New York City. PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that Sentebale has partnered with Ki Smith Gallery for an art exhibition titled "Friend," which will open to the public on Saturday, Dec.
The exhibition, running until Jan. 19, will be free to attend, with an option for visitors to make on-site donations to Sentebale. Members of the public can RSVP to attend through the gallery's website. The display will feature works by pioneers of Minimalism and Op Art alongside contemporary artists, with 100% of the gallery's profits donated to Sentebale from the sale of the art.In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso said, “This collaboration with Ki Smith and his gallery is incredibly meaningful to the organization. Having Ki join us in Lesotho this past October to see Sentebale’s work firsthand, and to experience the creativity, resilience and determination of the young people we serve, was truly special. ‘Friend’ is making art accessible to everyone—an act that resonates deeply with Sentebale’s ethos of leaving no one behind. This exhibition captures the spirit of inclusivity and community that lies at the heart of both Sentebale and Ki Smith Gallery.The showcase will feature iconic works by Frank Stella (Blyvoors, 1982, from the acclaimed South African Mine series), Bridget Riley (seminal black-and-white works, key to the Op Art movement) and Tadaaki Kuwayama (1980s series, presented for the first time in 40 years), and exhibit artists Rakuko Naito, Agnes Martin, Sono Kuwayama, Dylan Reitz-Cruz, Taiji Terasaki, Jorge Luis Rodriguez, Richard Hambleton and Sang Eun. The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver's "Movements Toward Freedom" brings nearly two dozen artists together to express movement.
The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver is exhibiting "Movements Toward Freedom," which brings together 21 artists to explore what movement means to them."Within Seeing" is just one of the many installations and sculptures in "Movements Toward Freedom." Leilani Lynch is the Associate Curator who put together the exhibit. She said that she was surprised how quickly health and fitness became one of the themes. "The artist has repurposed an actual basketball court floor."I'm trying to just like connect all the pieces of the exhibit and the words that are coming through in the music," she told CBS News Colorado."I hope more than anything, it sort of imbues a sense of hope or joy that we can garner from movement and dance and feeling the power of our bodies moving in space," Lynch said. "Movements Toward Freedom" explores not only the ways our bodies move, but how they can move together and the community that can be built from that. ... An art exhibition depicting graphic sexual acts has closed early after the work’s subject matter sparked outrage with Sydney locals.
The exhibition was created by artist Rollzey, who hired out a space in Studio 551 in Newtown in Sydney’s inner-west to promote his collection called “F--k Yeah”. Intended to run from October 17-22, the artwork featured depictions of partially-nude men and women’s genitalia and explicit illustrations of graphic sexual positions. The graphic artwork featured in the Sydney art gallery space.A number of residents were outraged by the exhibition, labelling the artwork “gross” and “violent, graphic and foul”. The exhibition garnered backlash from locals. MIAMI - This Monday, Dec. 2, is the official launch of an exhibition featuring 100 life-sized sculptures of Indian elephants that blends art, conservation and culture."The herd has arrived, inviting us to coexist with them just as the indigenous communities of southern India do with their real-life counterparts," said a spokesperson for the project. The installation celebrates the connection between humans, animals and their environments. Organizers said each sculpture crafted from a weed called lantana is available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting conservation and coexistence projects aimed at protecting migratory animals across land, water and air. There are a handful of different ways to get started with group shows, but I’d encourage you to find some friends who are also interested in exhibiting, then apply together to galleries to see if you can get an exhibition.Many galleries also hold group shows of their own, and they’ll often advertise for artists to participate – so you can often look out for those and apply!
